Piedmont Blues – A little History
The Piedmont Blues, also known as the East Coast Blues or South East Blues is really about a guitar style that consist of a finger picking that would sound similar to a ragtime piano. This is also where the term ragtime blues guitar originated.
The Piedmont Blues really ranged from what is called the Piedmont plateau areas of Virginia South to Georgia. The are included Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, East Tennessee, Northern Florida, Kentucky, Alabama and both of the Carolina’s.
Piedmont Blues was popular from the mid-20’s through the mid-40’s, but fell out of favor following WWII. A few popular and now legendary performer of the Piedmont Blues during this time frame were Blind Blake, Josh White, Buddy Moss, and Blind Boy Fuller
